Overview

Maine operates under a prior approval rate filing system, overseen by the Superintendent of Insurance. The Bureau regulates all insurance lines and is part of the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. Maine is known for having some of the lowest auto insurance premiums in the nation and has a competitive workers' compensation market with MEMIC as the state-designated insurer of last resort.
